Curriculum Developer


The Curriculum Developer is dedicated to creating resources that help parents homeschool classically and from a Christian worldview, especially through our Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge curriculum. Developers design a curriculum that is classical, Christian, and follows CC pedagogy. Developers work closely with the Training and Support team to ensure that messages to parents and licensed directors are consistent and clear, helping families understand and implement classical, Christian education at home. All members of this group may also serve as speakers at homeschool conventions, Parent Practicums, and other events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or four-year degree in a field with a qualitative research component (e.g., English, history, journalism)
  • Can travel two to four weeks per year
  • Has directed Classical Conversations programs
  • Has experience with Classical Conversations programs including Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge
  • Able to access one or more (university) research libraries
  • Can engage in web-based communications
  • Has regular access to high-speed Internet connectivity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Passionate about helping families give their children a classical, Christian education at home.
  • Knowledgeable or eager to learn about Classical Conversations’ mission, vision, and academic programs.
  • Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and messaging tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Familiar with MLA, APA, and Chicago styles of citation
  • Able to set priorities and manage multiple projects capably
  • Self-motivated and ready to take initiative when tracking down obscure facts
  • Willing to learn new technologies to aid in remote communication and job performance

Essential Duties

  • Research: Consults multiple reliable sources, both print and electronic, to find and summarize information about assigned topics. Passes on research with integrity, distinguishing direct quotations, documenting sources, and verifying that summaries are free from plagiarism.
  • Writing: Researches and writes assignments for the Challenge program. Assists other writers with the development of assignments and writing curricula. Revises curriculum according to feedback from customers, peers, and leaders.
  • Fact-checking: Reads through curriculum drafts, identifying factual information, and works from a standard set of credible sources to confirm all facts, from the spelling of names and locations to historical dates and definitions. Communicate recommended changes back to the author.
  • Accountability: Posts daily Slack updates. Attends weekly online meetings and monthly meetings with the manager.
  • Stewardship: Consults manager before spending monies. Completes a personal scorecard monthly. Keeps manager informed about workload and potential hiring needs.
  • Continued Learning: Attends quarterly round tables and biannual on-site meetings and completes Personal Learning Plan.
  • Communication: Communicates out to manager with status updates, questions, and blockers. Communicates across the team to other developers to understand the vision of the entire curriculum. Escalates issues to management as needed.
  •  Reporting: Gathers monthly updates for the manager as requested, including monthly reports about academic team webinars, training efforts, and general statistics.
  • Communicate and model the Classical Conversations Core Values – Grace, Humility, Integrity, Diligence, and Excellence
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Acute hearing and vision
  • Sitting in front of a computer for long periods, up to eight hours per day, with breaks.
  • Communicating over the Internet and via phone
